Through the construction of Idols, my work strives to reinvigorate humanity’s awareness of the spirits which inhabit every facet of the natural world. The format of the idol creates a concrete object to stand in the place of the immaterial concepts which it represents, while the human face and figurative shape of each one attempts to create a human connection between the viewer and the concept. The individual idols serve as representations of various aspects of a greater narrative about the origins of humanity, and the natural forces which have shaped culture since its inception. These elemental forces form the archetypes from which all culture and religion have sprouted. As a result many of the idols make use of a variety of religious references, creating cultural amalgamations which attempt to resonate with humanity as a whole.
